Freya's Founding is the second book in a series and luckily for us, does not follow the usual pattern of a disappointing sequel. I think this book is actually better than the first one with a continuation of storylines and additional character development. After I finished it, I definitely wanted to know what is going to happen next. A third book, hopefully! If you like the fantasy genre with a strong, funny female lead and a cast of interesting characters, then this book is for you. If you like a little science in your fantasy/science fiction, you'll also find that here (but no so much that you tune out or skip sections). This book is a fun, quick read - perfect for vacation or escape from day to day life. Enjoy!Product details

I have to admit this was a guilty pleasure! I was looking forward to hearing more about the adventures of Freya and her companions after reading the first book. This book was even better than the first! The characters feel like old friends now, but the plot continues to be unexpected. I actually read this in 2 days and my family is now suffering from my sleep deprivation. I can't wait for #3.
From the first chapter, I was hooked! The writing flow makes this a quick read; the action and romance peppered in the pages kept me coming back to the book again and again. Bair clearly has a vision for her characters and the arc of the story, and it was easy for me to envision the characters and setting as real-life people in San Luis Obispo. I felt like I was right there with them! I am amazed at Bair's creativity. I am already eagerly anticipating #3!
This sequel is just as fun as the first novel. Ms. Bair does a great job with moving the plot along while fleshing out the main characters. Perhaps my favorite part of the book is how upbeat, funny, and 'the glass is always full, you just have to figure out if it's full of liquid or gas' the main character tends to be. I look forward to the third book in the series and hope that Ms. Bair gets it done soon!
Freya's Founding is such an enjoyable read--well written, action-filled with a very appealing main character. Though Freya is a "supernatural", her thoughts and most behaviors are truly human. I can really relate. I can tell she has a heart for teens and is nurturing. In this book Freya teaches high school and has a newly adopted teen daughter who is quite a challenge.
I love Freya's commitment to non-violent conflict resolution, however she has the courage, strength and intelligence to use her powers to save lives. I was always curious about what would come next and how Nick, the mysterious man who thrives on chaos, would effect the outcome.
I recommend this intriguing book for all ages, teens on up.
I loved the development of two unlikely partners, as well as new characters to mix into this interesting cast. The Elders were not always wise, the same way that many of the Alphas erupted with emotions, causing many potencial problems for the community at large. The mysterious stranger who shows up was thought provoking as we and the characters try to figure out what he is ultimately after, with his troublemaking actions. A very entertaining series, so far!
I was a big fan of the first book in the "Winging It" series, and the sequel did not disappoint! I really appreciate how Bair plays with fantasy in a way that is so imaginative, yet realistic and believable. The realism comes from a commitment to physical details, a strong sense of place, and great character development. I love the new characters she added this time around! Freya's Founding is a quick read, but as we've heard said, easy reading is damn hard writing. This book stands out among novels in its genre, as the writer has a firm grasp on not just on her idea and her world but on the language as well. I was eager to go on another adventure with that zany, fast-talking Alva, Freya, and her werewolf posse; I'm so glad that this book lives up to its predecessor! Enjoy.
As a fan of Bair's first "Winging It" novel, "Freya's Inferno," I was excited to read the next in the series. The book picks up right where the first one ended, but you could easily start with this book- the author gives enough backstory to piece the previous plot together. Not your typical "Werewolves among us"- type fantasy novel, the book stays grounded in reality thanks in part to the flawed-yet-relatable heroine, Freya, whose wry sense of humor is a breath of fresh air compared to other books of this genre. I also enjoyed the scenic setting of the Californian central coast- the vivid imagery and detailed description of San Luis Obispo almost served as another character in the novel, similar to the fictional setting of Castle Rock in many of the Stephen King tales. A colorful adventure that makes you wish you also had secret wings--as the character Nick notes in Bair's newest novel, "Isn't it disappointin' to finish a good book?"
